Dangerous Recommendations #2 - Blacktask - Long After Midnight

This album is a dead set classic ripper! I picked up the LP for 20 bux about 5 years ago or so and was hooked on the first play. Released in 1986 the album and band are not your standard run of the mill metal/thrash/speed band. Many of the songs have acoustic, keyboard and sound effects over them and there is lots bluesy parts that kinda remind me of black sabbath's never say die album. Mix all that with venom, judas priest, misfits and many NWOBHM bands and you might get some idea.
The production on this baby is perfect! really heavy guitars and drums with some of the best unique vocals in metal while still retaining a slight rough edge to it.
Very short album at under 25 mins, the songs are mainly short and to the point. The drumming might be a bit dull for some as the drummer often plays the same sort of beat in many of the songs. The band had 2 recordings before this album being a EP and a demo, both were more rough and simple and more in league with Venom... Another band that was in league with venom at the same time was NME which also sounds similar to Black task's EP and Demo.
While those recordings are also rippers, this album is the winner for me. All the songs kill and are very catchy! Lots of heavy and speed for your brains.
Track it down you won't be disappointed!

Inside the Mind Interviews #1 - Oath (Italy)

1. Greetings Dezo!! How is the Italian Hell Life going at the moment mate!? What have you been drinking, fucking, watching and listening to lately?

1. Hail Brother! now I'm home from work and finally have the time needed to respond to the interview! These days I drink just because I'm taking antibiotics, I slept too many nights in the car and I was sick for half ahhahaa! Recently listening to D.R.I. to the breakneck!!

2. Alright mate let's get to business
You play in a shit load of bands at the moment Oath, Assaltator, Sidus Tenebrarum, Spavaldery & Chronic Hate...  any more I'm missing?
All bastard bands, all of them unique and powerful!
You Play guitar, drums, vocals and even some farting haha you are truly possessed by the sounds of evil!! But what made you form the son of satan that is Oath?

2. Yes i play with 4 Bands:OATH (Filthy thrash),ASSALTATOR (Atomic thrash),SIDUS TENEBRARUM (Death\black metal) and SPAVALDERY (Rotten'roll).
I do not play in CHRONIC HATE, is a Band of my friends, guitarist and bassist playing in only for the dates OATH live "session man".
My first instrument I play is Bass from 1999, then over the years have managed to do a rehearsal room at home and I started playing the drums and the guitar, always self! OATH The project was born in the summer of 2006, after realizing that i had with a group (MERCY oF DEVIL) were fucked up things i needed to have my project alone, without having to confront people who did not like my music or my project stile.
OATH is always been my personal outlet, I like my music, I am convinced, I say what I want and I differs from other metal bands of the "scene" of my region

3. Oath is a one man band in the studio but a iron gang on stage, why is that? Give us some history of the band; what would you call the style of the band?

3. Why is my personal project and I do not want someone to accept my music as can happen in a live band. My music and lyrics entirely because it's my concept, I agreed only 2 texts, one is of my bassist and one is a person you know ... hahaha ROTTEN TO THE CORE!
For years I have 2 friends who help me in live dates, the SER and NICOLA BAITA! bassist and guitarist CHRONIC HATE (mentioned before).
NICOLA BAITA has contributed a lot in OATH helping me in the first demo "FAITH AGAINST FAITH" playing his guitar, and then registering the following work with his computer laptop dirt of beer!Speaking a summer evening drunk in an apartment if she wanted to participate in the proposed project, I was looking for parts for the live shows and to record the guitar, which in 2006 I could not play guitar.Began around that time, I had 3 songs and I imagined how to make live.Already one year we recorded the first demo the following year began the first live to reach my objective!
Style of OATH  can call "THRASH BLACK", but I prefer to call it  "FILTHY THRASH" is more appropriate, as soon as the listen OATH hear the thrash feel rotten!

4. Faith Against Faith is a mega ripper of a demo, one of the best I've heard this decade in the thrash metal department. It was released as a cdr in 2007 then Issued on tape by husk records in 2008, how did you get in touch with them? Was it spread far?
The demo has original feelings, attitude & sound I feel when I listen to this. Give us some background on the writing, the recording and atmosphere surrounding this demo. Also what are your thoughts on the demo these days?.

4. Thanks Brother for the compliment mega galactic ahhahaha! Is always a pleasure to know that you transmit your own emotions with my music!
Contacted me through myspace to print the tape, a patient named JOSH from Husk Records. The first release on CD was limited to 150 copies, the second reissue on CD I do not remember how many copies, but had a surprise in THE BODY OF CHRIST! Or a slice of cold cuts!
I have a good memory, a period of shit in my life, I saw him OATH as a relief, anger, sadness,i tired a sense of something ...
To do a similar kind of problems you have, you must be angry!you must have something to say and be angry with someone! If not there's all this then it's just technical metal with no logical sense, run by metalheads who are afraid to sweat and ruin his jaket full of pins, thought to be Satriani.
This generally for misfits!!Today is a fashion disgusting and it is difficult to distinguish from real Bands and band FAKE!

5. Next up in 2008 the Devil's Victim EP A self-release from the band, it's a total smash in the face the inner notes say "And now, pump up the volume and puke next to the stereo... zero technics, just impact. Italian dirty violence" sums up this release perfect. The EP is faster and savage than the demo, sounds like the band was more pissed off on this recording. Also I feel there is more lethal punk vibe on this release Give us some background info & thoughts surrounding this EP.

5. hahahahahha I spit blood for this EP and I gave it my all ... the first job where I played all the pieces were in the works for strumenti.I time, are different, but the style is close to songs like "Evil flash" of first demo!
Bathory style, with pieces and Exploited always sounds harsh but it is the kind that runs in my blood! If you want to put a sunny rock 'n roll I have no problems, I do not take into account to anyone! Meat in face ever!
I appreciate all of "DEVIL'S VICTIM" just does not feel very the bass, only that I'm sorry, the rest is honest!

6. By the live photos and videos I've seen of Oath, you maniacs burn the stage to the ground, Real lighting and thunder. Extreme aggression and force of misfits that is not typical of a metal band these days. I would love to see you maniacs live, even to just a have a band like Oath in my own country. I see Oath puts their black hearts into the live setting.
What does playing live mean to you? And what is a Oath show like? What do headthrashers expect when they see you bastards live?

6. Playing live for me is to expose my message, show my best hand, and belonging to this release and relief personal to 100%.I do not use drugs, playing live with the OATH are more of a euphoric drug addict, adrenaline burning, anger screaming to throw up.This is my hand that I should exhibit personality in real life several times, but would end up in prison or stabbed hahahahah!
A live concert of OATH is like a hard-core violence, hatred describe it is to be seen .... firecrackers, bones and rotting flesh flying! Nauseating smells of fish and fireworks that accompany you back home! Chains and curses! People you have to impress and leave, or stay under the stage and launch against other people for a violent mosh! sometimes people standing still and looks at you, but we get by aahhaa! is like the movie "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" with music of the OATH!

7. I noticed Oath has had many live session members over the years. Is it hard to maintain a live live up? Why do so many members come and go?

7. YES as a drummer was the first of "BELLOZ" (SIDUS TENEBRARUM), because he dumped her there with the commitments the faceva.I replaced with another ambiguous character and now I'm trying with a guy that I will live only two.The bassist will make me two more concerts but luckily I found a good substitute.
is a serious problem finding people to play, consistent and trustworthy people .. also for the OATH seen live recently.
Due to commitments of the various components, but above all because we transform the live stage after 2 songs in a stable, partly because we do not have labels or majors shit! Underground of course!

8. A good car tape was the The Oath & Necrosexual Rites split, which was a small release of 200 copies self-released in 2008. Both perverted & rotten evil bands, with Oath Featured 2 rough versions of the songs from the EP and a new intro. How did this release come about?  What are your thoughts on the release?
Necrosexual rites was a quiet band that has since split up. Are you still comrades with them?

8. The split tape we had proposed a band called "Merciless Death" 3-WAY SPLIT, with them, OATH and NECROSEXUAL RITES! After almost a year this band had problems until I decided to do it along with Necrosexual split only 2 of us.
We did live together in 2 years then we lost sight of and they no longer exist.

9. I find it criminal that you maniacs do not have any label, you bastards shit all over a lot of the label bands. I would take Oath any day over bands like Baphomet's Blood, Nocturnal & Watain etc.
It seems that boring, generic, fashion, recycled; tribute metal is big business these days. Have you had any label interest at all besides husk records?
Have you tried some labels? I think you bastards might be way too dangerous and rotten for business, what are your thoughts on all this shit business?

9. At the beginning I sent qalc cd label, but no one answered me, only the devotees of rotten fanzines.
They look to the recordings sound good, I can not afford to record a CD with studio sound.
Register yourself and I'll take too long, there are studies that ask for € 20 for hour!ahahhaha I'll take too long and I can not afford this luxury.
So for the choice and coercion OATH will always sound old school.
If I commit suicide after stabbing a priest exceeded sales of CDs and t-shirt Watain ahahhahaha! But I am an Italian idiot and the fame of my country gripped my credibility.
Record companies and labels are controlled by thieves Italian shit, groups that exploit them useful, and then ask for money to pay you to finish their CD.
many people who want to make metal did not realize that he will never live with the music! is just a passion .... the SLAYER ALREADY THERE! Their live music, but Tom Araya is a Christian of shit! I play what I like until I feel like it, and I am convinced that life in the express my lirics.
I am proud of myself and the things that I miss I have already said ....
kicked in the mouth at all! OATH is not business! is EXPLOSIVE SHIT!!

10. What are the influences for you and Oath? I hear and feel the thunder of metal and the fuck off aggression of hardcore punk. Give us some examples of the bands that influence you. Also outside of music what else influences the mighty Oath?

10. I'm influenced by bands like Tormentor,Bathory, Exploited, Upset Noise, Sodom,Messiah,Necrodeath, Discharge and blah blah blah ... is that I listen to this music 13 years, and over the years I have opened other genres like garage punk to new wave.
Listening type of music depending on my mood, my favorite genre is that of OATH, but listening to other genres are mature and not likely to fossilize into a single genre, it is sad!
Then for the rest I do not care, it is important not to have to do to talk to idiots who listen to music with just one kind, and maybe you believe employers to judge ....16 years I was so ahhahaha then grows!

11. My speakers started leaking with vomit when I put in the Oath & Assaltator a Rotten Split CD in the stereo. A really great release of pure thrashing rage that features you in both bands. Released to 150 cds on evil pestilence productions in 2010, who are they? The artwork suits the release to a tee whose evil hands conjured it up?
Give us some background information regarding this release and your reflections on it?

11. The "Evil Pestilence Productions" is a label of singer Assaltator "Beast" as it promotes its work on the artwork and design.
Is that it has made the cover of the split, very VOIVOD style!
This split I decided to do with this other for my band to make it known, is already out for some years, but I came dopo.Giusto to promote the band and use the name OATH as advertising on this project!
If vomiting comes from the speakers then the material is good hahahaha! The design represents the death breastfeeding death, a nun who tries to save the radioactive children who are already fucked in a future devastated.

12. What does the future hold for Oath? What are the next releases from your twisted mind? Can we expect; More Shows, violence, Sex, Vomiting, Women, Chains, Blasphemy, Madness, Blood & John Rambo?

12. For the next year will be released split "FORNICATION\ DIABOLICAL DEMON DIRECTOR\ OATH" been waiting over a year for the consecration of this wreck! Also next year will record 4 new songs for a possible split...
As very few concerts, but that's okay, no one deserves at least we will be more sought after for true fans of OATH. Caused too much damage after 2 SONGS!
for this is difficult, but will continue to organize the concerts until God take me away with him ahhahahahahhahahahahahahahah!
Yeah John Rambo ahahhaha! is a good item for a tattoo!

13. Ok Dezo you crazy perverted maniac what's the damage? hahaha What are the final words before the execution? Also Tell the black hand zine headthrashers how they can summon the evil sounds of Oath and make contact, Cheers for answering the questions my friend all the best for Oath and the rest of your bands.

13. Thank you Brother!!! and Headthrashers Zine for your interest! the Oath can find them in your toilet bowl after shit ... If you are interested in having the material in the e-mail contact oathpordenone@hotmail.it ....

Gaming Remembrance #3 - Eye of the Beholder

Introduction:
Eye of the Beholder is a role-playing video game for computers and video game consoles developed by Westwood Studios. It was published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. in 1990 for the DOS operating system and later ported to the Amiga, the Sega CD, and the SNES. The Sega CD version features an exclusive soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro. A full port to the Atari Lynx handheld was developed by NuFX in 1993, but never officially released.

The game had two sequels, Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon, released in 1991, and Eye of the Beholder III: Assault on Myth Drannor, released in 1993. The third game, however, was not written by Westwood, who had split with SSI over artistic differences and created the Lands of Lore series.

What a game this was, I remember playing it to the max back in 1990/1991 when it first came out for the Commodore Amiga. I remember playing it still til the mid 90's and even the early 2000's. A fantastic game, similar style RPG to Dungeon Master. A difficult game that takes many many hours to finish ( I only finished it once I think)
It was darker, harder and a bit more story based than Dungeon Master, but since Dungeon Master was the first I have a soft spot for that one ha! EOTB is a great game and highly recommended. I feel like playing it again right now...

Gaming Remembrance #2 - Nitro

Introduction...Nitro is an top-down perspective arcade racer for the Amiga and Atari ST. It was developed and published in 1990 by Psygnosis.

This game contains no clear background or storyline, just white-knuckle video game racing. After choosing whether to play with one, two or three (via keyboard) players, the player(s) must select a car and buy accessories at the "pit stop" before proceeding to the race. Three vehicles are available; namely the racing car, sports car, and turbo buggy. Accessories include nitros, high speed, acceleration, traction, fix damage, a change of car, as well as fuel which is imperative to the racing campaign.

The game consists of 32 levels, but the game ends when the fuel is depleted. To prevent this, the player must finish in a high place on most races, which rewards the player with up to 600 gasoline units. In addition, power-ups float around in the levels as well as being placed on the track, but these may be picked up by any of the four cars.

There are four different environments. Starting on city roads, the player advance through forest and desert tracks before playing the last levels in a wasteland terrain. (Evidently, the Nitro story is that the apocalypse occurs, and the races go on. "The end of the world is nigh" is graffitied on the track.) Every four races there are night levels, which means that the screen is pitch-black save for the small area illuminated by headlights. Double headlights are available as a floating power-up.

Obstacles during races are commonplace. Examples are cones and holes in the road, which mainly slow down the player, and (blue) oil spillage which causes the car to spin. The Nitro manual makes reference to pedestrians, and says that in some races extra points are given for hitting pedestrians--however During a replay only 1 of the 32 levels has a message prior to entering the race, mentioning : money awarded for hitting pedestrians.

Another all time classic game here called Nitro. Released in 1990 for the Commodore Amiga. This game was just so much fun to play, especially the 2 player games. Always on the edge of your seat action racing to the finish line and trying not to run out of gas.
I must of played the game from it's release right up til early 2007 when my Amiga monitor died. I still like to play every now and again on my Uncle's Amiga. Out of all the racing games I played over the decades this one was defiantly the most fun and the most classic.
Had ripper music, controls and graphics. It will never be topped for me!
